Have y’all heard Beyonce’s new song Formation?! Better yet, have you seen the music video??!!! It’s simply the most amazing video I feel she has ever released. The lyrics, the setting, the carefree message that it sent out was inspiring. You wil rarely hear a modern day artist state that they are unapologetically black in such blunt terms. Singing that she likes her “baby hair with baby hair and afros” or her “negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils” is something alot of artists today wouldn’t risk puting in their music. She also completely shut down all the people criticizing Blue for having “nappy” hair, like any mother would if the public had the nerve to sign a petition for her to change her childs hair.. However not only did Bey kill this song but seeing her perform it at the superbowl was ICONIC.
constant theme of girls running the world. To see so many women move in unison to such a powerful song is HISTORY. Not only did the song pay tribute to black people everywhere, and but it silenced everyone who ever thought Bey was not proud of her blackness. The backlash she is receiving from so many news outlets and public figures for saying “negro” on television is quite ironic becaus these were the same people who were in love with Beyonce a few days ago before the Superbowl. I’ve seen quotes from numerous people about why she brought race into the superbowl, or why she said negro on TV, or why her dancers where dressed in such costumes, which brings me to my next point.
As you can see in the above image, Beyonce’s backup dancers were dressed as members of the Black Panther Party. Its such a bold move for her or anyone for that matter and I am loving every bit of it. From the Black beret’s, to the beautiful natural afro’s, to the Black leather outfits, and lastly to the Black Dr. Martin boots, the dancers made a tremendous statement for everyone to see. This modern day show of Black pride was so much fun to witness and it just goes on to let America know that WE will not be silenced, We see what is happening to Our People and We will continue to fight back in all ways that We deem necessary!
