Slicked, Slippery and Sleek! (3 part series, here’s part 1)

Let me tell y’all about how I flourished in February, natural hair wise at least.  I finally attempted a sleek style and it worked!!! I went from slicked back natural hair, to a high fashion high ponytail, to an iconic tail length braid and I was living. GET INTO IT.

Like most people, I have several different textures of lovely hair and it can sometimes be difficult. The top is definitely 4c, the sides are a solid 4b/4c mixture and in the back the last 2 inches are all 3c it’s always been this way. Growing up I honestly didn’t think that sleek styles were possible for people with hair like mine, but I have seen the light! Now I’m here to deliver all my type 4 sisters to the light as well.

I washed my hair with Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Shampoo, with I like, however it dries my hair out just a bit we can’t have brittle curls. So after that I went in with the Moroccan Pear Conditioning Custard which really hydrates, moisturizes and softens my hair, it felt soooo good after I rinsed it out.

Here comes the scary part, the slicking and sleeking while slippery.. I started at the back of my head with the 3C hair and worked my way up. For each section I applied Eden’s Coconute Shea Leave In Conditioner, Cream of Nature’s Argan Oil and Eco Style’s Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel in that order. I brushed through each section with my Denman brush and put a black scrunchy on after adding each section to the ponytail.

When I got to the front of my head, I parted my hair on the side I liked best, and continued slicking until I was completely done. The only thing I added was the Murray’s Edgewax along the part and on my edges because type 4 edges in my experience are harder to lay and this wax seems to do the trick for me.

LOOK AT THAT 4C HAIR SHINING, POPPING, WAVING!

Black hair can do so many things, this is probably one of the coolest. I loved this style because my hair wasn’t flaky, frizzy or hard to deal with for the few days I had it in and it was nice to imagine what I’d look like with shorter hair.   IMG_1087

No hair in the face can sometimes be a good thing and it was a nice change for me considering all I ever do is wear long, big hair styles. This was simple and fun, plus the curl definition in the poof was very nice. ❤

That Time I was Cat Woman (kinda)

Yes, it’s me, I’m back with many many things to share with you all. Let’s rewind ourselves back to January when it was still winter…OOPS ITS STILL COLD AND WINTRY so you shouldn’t have to go back too too far.

Anyways, here’s that time I was Cat Woman at the Cheesecake Factory in Maryland. I’m not sure if I had been feeling down in the dumps or not, there had been a lot of that around that time but I am better now lol. So when Nyiah (bestie /roomie/ sister) and I are bored and or hungry, which is all day everyday, we like to get cute and treat ourselves to a nice meal or two. The getting cute obviously boosts confidence and makes for an overall pleasant experience, the food is a reward for getting out of bed, leaving our darkness and putting together nice looks.

IMG_0988BAM! There it is, me serving dark Scorpio realness (see what I mean by cat woman). I bought this one piece/jumpsuit/catsuit from Fashion Nova, and I am in love with it. I feel like every woman, regardless of size or shape should own one of these at some point in her life. You can wear it with practically anything if you get it in a neutral color, and it’s super comfy!

IMG_0928I felt like a superSHEro wearing this, even though we only went to eat. Of course y’all know I had to get my pics because I rarely dress up for school anymore. So there I am, with my high ponytail (it’s becoming my signature style), my hoop earrings, my thigh high boots and my stretchy suit.

I’m still a bit weary of Fashion Nova’s quality, and whatnot because of a pair of jeans I received in the past year, but this is one of my favorite pieces in my closet and it wasn’t too expensive either so that’s a plus. Oh and the best part about this outfit was, after I ate, I didn’t have to unbutton my pants, or suffocate while my jeans stabbed me in my rib cage during dinner. Definitely a successful roomie date! ❤

Did You Mesh Me?

Did you mesh me? I hope so because I have more exciting outfits and things to share with you all. Today we’re talking about the tailgate, how I missed it, and what I wore while I was missing it. You know you always have to look good…

So I woke up probably around 9, and didn’t make it out of my dorm until like 2 pm because this D.C. weather is oh so unpredictable. IMG_9938 It was way hotter than I expected and I had to switch up my fit real quick.

For my makeup I kept it simple, I don’t like to wear much when I know I’ll be sweaty and uncomfortable. All I did was fill in my eyebrows, put on mascara and my Ruby Woo MAC lipstick, because who doesn’t love a classic red lip.

Originally I was supposed to wear this with high waist jeans but that heat was too much, my knees would’ve been sweating. I opted for this black mesh overlay dress from Forever 21, black satin bralette $7 from Forever 21 as well. I Paired these with high waist snakeskin print shorts from H&M also 7$ and my Steve Madden clear booties that I absolutely adore.IMG_9936 What I loved about this mesh dress was that I was as cool as I could possibly be without being naked. Plus mesh is definitely back in, and it feels good to take the trend and make it my own. Plus it flowed so nicely when I walked, just pulled the whole fit together.

These shorts were so so so comfy, and they fit just right. I’m nor sure about the rest of you ladies out there but I’ve been stuck one too many pair of shorts that leave me breathing funny because they’re too tight in the waist but fit great everywhere else. These had the perfect amount of stretch too, I could actually sit down without my skin spilling over.

Now my shoes are a whole different story and I’d be telling a fierce lie if I didn’t let y’all know that I took these off right after these pics were taken. My feet were on FIRE, one because they’re plastic, and two because I love the look of heels but hate the feel and my feet were screaming for help! I never ran so fast too find a cute pair of sandals in my life.  IMG_9922

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post and if you stick around I’ll show you how I wear this same dress in more Fall like temperatures. XOXO ♥

Brought Fashion to the Show

Every year my school Howard University throws the gathering of all gatherings for homecoming. There are alumni events, undergrad events and some open to the public. The pep rally usually kicks of a week of fun however there wasn’t very much pep at the rally this year. So let’s fast forward to Thursday, the day of Pulse, the fashion show.

Leading up to homecoming I, along with the majority of bison, couldn’t find anything worth buying to wear for the entire weekend f festivities so we just decided to wing it… My version of winging it was to design and sew my outfit all by my lonesome with a bit of help from my mom. Only problem was that I had one weekend, which turned into one day to make my outfit, which turned into one pair of pants by the end of that weekend and a me making the shirt between classes up to the night before the show.  IMG_9874

Now don’t forget, I’m not even in the fashion show nor are my designs but the fit for the event ALWAYS matters at Howard, there’s no escaping that. So here’s to my stunning, yes quite stunning, fashion show fit with my Diana Ross inspired hair.

I’m not really sure where I got the idea for this outfit but I’m glad it came out the exact way I pictured it, glamorous and elegant as well as colorful and fun. When you look good you feel good and I felt a billion times better knowing that absolutely no one would be wearing the same outfit as me.

As I told you before this look was inspired by Diana Ross and when I think of her I think big glam hair along with perfect accessories to match. So I opted for HUGE wand curls that I brushed out right before I left my dorm. They took about four hours to complete but it was so worth it. I’m not much of a makeup person yet so I did my absolute best with what I had.

IMG_9882I wore at least two layers of  Miss Manga Voluminous Mascara by L’Oreal, NYX Black Liquid liner, Maybelline Fit Me foundation and Sephora microsmooth luminizer “Stardust”. On my lips I wore MAC’s On and On lipstick with their clear Lipglass on top.

And no, the night wouldn’t have been complete without a few Snapchat pics to make the memories last forever.

There’s no better time to be a diva than NOW…

Ladies Get In Formation…

f941e1_f13b8da0c8af4bfcb1472c55d0d3b439
Have y’all heard Beyonce’s new song Formation?! Better yet, have you seen the music video??!!! It’s simply the most amazing video I feel she has ever released. The lyrics, the setting, the carefree message that it sent out was inspiring. You wil rarely hear a modern day artist state that they are unapologetically  black in such blunt terms. Singing that she likes her “baby hair with baby hair and afros”  or  her “negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils” is something alot of artists today wouldn’t risk puting in their music. She also completely shut down all the people criticizing Blue for having “nappy” hair, like any mother would if the public had the nerve to sign a petition for her to change her childs hair.. However not only did Bey kill this song but seeing her perform it at the superbowl was ICONIC.

In my opinion she stole the show from Bruno Mars and Coldplay and the game too. It was more like a Beyonce concert where the players and the other performers opened up for her. Anyway, above we have the usual female backup dancers which promotes her
constant theme of girls running the world. To see so many women move in unison to such a powerful song is HISTORY. Not only did the song pay tribute to black people everywhere, and but it silenced everyone who ever thought Bey was not proud of her blackness. The backlash she is receiving from so many news outlets and public figures for saying “negro” on television is quite ironic becaus these were the same people who were in love with Beyonce a few days ago before the Superbowl. I’ve seen quotes from numerous people about why she brought race into the superbowl, or why she said negro on TV, or why her dancers where dressed in such costumes, which brings me to my next point.
As you can see in the above image, Beyonce’s backup dancers were dressed as members of the Black Panther Party. Its such a bold move for her or anyone for that matter and I am loving every bit of it. From the Black beret’s, to the beautiful natural afro’s, to the Black leather outfits, and lastly to the Black Dr. Martin boots, the dancers made a tremendous statement for everyone to see. This modern day show of Black pride was so much fun to witness and it just goes on to let America know that WE will not be silenced, We see what is happening to Our People and We will continue to fight back in all ways that We deem necessary!

In addition to all the greatness that Bey has bestowed upon us, she also honors Michael Jackson by recreating the look that he wore when he performed at the Superbowl in 1993. She never ceases to amaze me, and I’ve been a fan of her ever since I can remember. I could go on and on about how she’s an amazing person as well as an amazing singer and performer but that might take weeks. So don’t forget to subscribe and I hope you all enjoyed this!
